PHOENIX -- It's that time of the year. The weather is beautiful. People are out enjoying the outdoors, but they're not the only ones. These gorgeous days and mild nights also bring out the snakes, scorpions and other creepy crawlers.

"If you live in Arizona, I don't care where you live, snakes are everywhere," said Dan Marchand with Phoenix Herpetological Society.

Marchand says if you're hiking, stay on the trails. And if you're spring cleaning your backyard, be careful there, as well.

"Get a tool, lift up the bush, shake it, make some disturbance so if there's a scorpion or snake, you'll see it," Marchand advised.

When it comes to your pets, Marchand says keep them on a short leash. If you or your pet gets a snake bite, go to the hospital right away.

"Don't drive yourself to the hospital. Have someone take you. Get hospital care right away," he said.
