PHOENIX -- The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested several employees of a Valley restaurant chain for allegedly using fake identification and being in the country illegally.

On Thursday, MCSO said they had concluded a workplace ID theft operation at two America’s Taco Shop locations in Phoenix, and one in Tempe.

A total of 11 employees were arrested, four of which were booked into jail on felony charges related to identity theft and forgery.

The remaining seven suspects were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for border violation issues.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Criminal Employment Squad had been investigating America’s Taco Shop for more than a year.

“Identity theft continues to be a burdening problem in Arizona as evidenced by the large number of arrests we’ve made in this area,” said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. “Maybe our nation’s leaders will iron out a comprehensive immigration reform deal that will help alleviate the problem of non-citizens working with false documents in our neighborhood worksites.”
