Tara Hitchcock talks about stepson's health scarePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A familiar face was spotted in the 3TV studios this week. Tara Hitchcock visited Lisa Haffner on the set of Your Life A to Z to talk about this year's Health & Wealth Raffle.
The Raffle offers some amazing, one-of-a-kind prizes, like cars and trips to Disneyworld. In fact, one of the grand prizes is a cool million dollars in cash!
Besides the fabulous grand prize, folks can also win in the early draws. One of those early draw prizes is a trip to New York City and a Broadway experience.
"One of the things they've done is try to create these experiences that you can't get anywhere else," Tara says. "You can go to Paris, or you can just design your own European vacation."
The raffle not only features great prizes, but also benefits Barrow Neurological Institute and St. Joseph's Hospital. Proceeds from the Raffle go directly to the hospitals.
Tara, former host of Good Morning Arizona, is now an advocate for Barrow and St. Joseph's. She has a very personal connection to the cause, and Friday she sat down and talked to Lisa about how it came about.
Last year, Tara's stepson, Dylan, then 16, suffered stroke-like symptoms. It turned out that he had suffered an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) rupture on one side of his brain.
"He was flown to Barrow, medically induced coma, ICU for a week, neuro rehab, you name it," Tara says. "In fact he's still in therapies at this amazing program down there called CTN: Center for Transitional NeuroRehabilitation."
"I will talk about St. Joe's and Barrow for the rest of my life," Tara told Lisa. "So when they approached me and said would you like to help with the raffle, well, count me in, people!"
Dylan is now doing well. "He's back in high school, with better grades than he had before," Tara says.
Single tickets for the Health & Wealth Raffle cost $100. The deadline to buy raffle tickets is April 18. But don't wait too long. There are four early draws you won't want to miss. And if you win an early draw prize, you're still eligible for the bigger prizes.
