PHOENIX -- A mediation specialist with the Maricopa County Office of the Legal Defender was arrested Friday morning for allegedly sneaking contraband into the Maricopa County Jail.

Phoenix police said Jessica Lynn Mukavetz, 33, was booked on multiple charges including participating in a street gang or organization and promoting prison contraband.

Mukavetz was arrested following a joint investigation by the Phoenix Police Department Gang Enforcement Unit and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit that began back in September.

During the course of the investigation, authorities reportedly learned that Mukavetz was misusing her identification to visit a male inmate that she was having a romantic relationship with.

Due to her credentials, Mukavetz was allowed to have unsupervised visits with the man, who is part of a criminal street gang.

Mukavetz is accused of providing the inmate with contraband, while also supplying members of the gang with information and financial support.

Police arrested Mukavetz after serving search warrants at her office and home.
