New show 'Cult' Debuts on CW TuesdayPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Tonight marks the debut of a new CW series called 'Cult'.
The show centers on a journalist blogger and a production assistant, who investigate a series of mysterious disappearances that are linked to a popular television series, also named 'Cult'.
It's a show within a show, and some describe it as 'Paranormal' meets the "X-Files' meets 'Supernatural.'
On Tuesday's Good Morning Arizona, Scott Pasmore got to talk with two of the show's stars. Each of them actually plays two different roles on the show.
Former cult member and TV investigator Kelly Collins is played by actress Marti Gerritsen, who is actually played by Alona Tal. "There's nothing like it on TV," says Tal. "I was excited about the two character part of it all."
In the parallel worlds of the show within a show, the cult's leader, Billy Grimm, is played by actor Roger Reeves, who is actually played by real-life actor Robert Knepper .
"I liked it, because to me, if was like an answer to what I went through on Prison Break," Knepper says. "Everywhere you go people are watching you like a monkey in the zoo. Everything you do is fair game."
"You're inside people's living rooms and you really get to affect them", Tal says. "This show really explores that social media, power of television aspect that I don't think anybody's really touched on in this way."
The actors say the viewers will have to differentiate between the two worlds. "It had to blend into each other just enough that people are interested in both shows equally," Tal says.
'Cult' airs on the CW6 on Tuesday nights. This week marks the premiere.
