Appliance repair man takes woman's money, doesn't finish jobPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A Valley homeowner said she paid an appliance repairman in advance to repair her oven only to have the man vanish.
Patricia Wallace hired Frances Fritz and his company called Appliance Certified to fix her broken oven.
“This is the oven that just went dead on us,” said Patricia.
And a broken oven is a big problem for Patricia, who spends a lot of time in the kitchen.
“We actually use it quite a bit because we eat a lot of hot dishes and things like that," she explained.
So back in October, Patricia went online and came across a company called Appliance Certified, owned by Frank Fritz.
“He took the mother board with him and he said it would be $350 dollars for a rebuilt one and to put it back in," recalled Patricia.
Patricia said she paid Fritz half of the repair up front, $160, and allowed him to take the mother board with him to fix it.
However, four months later Patricia doesn't have her oven fixed, she's out $160, and Fritz keeps dodging her.
Another viewer told 3 On Your Side the same thing happened when Fritz took their washing machine along with $300, and only returned when the police got involved.
3 On Your Side finally got a hold of Fritz, who promised to return Patricia's motherboard and money but he never did.
Fritz and Appliance Certified have an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau.
Nearly 50 consumers have logged complaints.
Patricia said she intends on filing a theft report.
