GREER, AZ  - After more than six decades, the landmark Greer Lodge Resort and Cabins has shut its doors.

The lodge was a huge tourism generator for the town, and has been a popular getaway for decades.

The closure of the lodge and its related business, which include the 373 Grill and Red Setter Inn, means more than 100 people will reportedly be left without jobs.

The lodge was established in 1948. The current owner. Doug Sandahl, purchased the lodge in 2004 and embarked on expansion of the property, which ended up with 50 rental cabins. He said as late as last Friday that the lodge closure was a rumor.

The lodge web page says that "The Greer Lodge Resort and Cabins is closed". It directs those with reservations to download a refund request form.

A fire in May of 2011 destroyed the main lodge, but did not spread to the surrounding cabins or forest.  The AFT determined that the fire was arson.
