1 Wounded in early morning shootingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Police are investigating an early morning shooting at a West Phoenix apartment complex.
It happened shortly before 8 a.m. Monday in a second-floor unit at Estancia del Sol, which is located at 40th Avenue and Camelback Road.
Officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department said a male was shot in the chest. That man was taken to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately available, but his injuries were believed to be non life-threatening.
Investigators are trying to piece together events leading up to the shooting.
"We do know the male victim's girlfriend/wife was booked into jail last evening for assault/damage involving an neighbor (nor further details), and there was only the victim and a 3-year-old child in the apartment at the time of this shooting," Holmes said. "The victim is not very cooperative with police at this time."
Police are trying to locate the child's relatives.
Information will be updated as it develops.
