PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- A Prescott Valley man is facing multiple criminal charges for allegedly driving drunk and leaving the scene of an accident.
Prescott Valley Police said they responded to a home just before 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day after receiving a report of a hit and run.
Officers arrived to discover that a white fence had been destroyed and two trees in the front yard had been damaged. The homeowner told police that they heard what they thought was thunder at around 3 a.m.
Officers went on to locate a vehicle that had damage consistent with the crash at a Prescott Valley home. They also noticed that the car had a fake license plate.
While at the home police spoke with 20-year-old Matthew Allen Ellson, who had injuries to his arm and face.
Police said Ellson originally denied any involvement in the crash, but later admitted to drinking the night before and made multiple incriminating statements.
Police subsequently discovered that Ellson has a suspended driver’s license, and is on probation for a previous DUI related charge.
Ellson was eventually arrested on multiple criminal charges, including aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
