Woman hit, killed while walking in Phoenix crosswalk against light

PHOENIX -- An elderly woman was hit by a pickup truck and killed as she crossed the street in a marked crosswalk Friday morning.

It happened at 36th Street and Thomas Road.

According to police, witnesses said the woman was in the crosswalk but was walking against the light.

The victim has been identified as Vera Dodd, 86. She was rushed to a local hospital where she died.

The driver of the pickup that hit the woman stopped and stayed at the scene. Aerial video showed the truck sitting halfway in the crosswalk.

The intersection of 36th Street and Thomas Road was closed while police conducted their investigation.
