SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – It’s hard to miss the big, white tents gracing the skyline in North Scottsdale this holiday season. Beneath those tents you’ll find an incredible stage show.

Created by one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil, Cavalia Odysseo is a theatrical, multimedia performance, featuring equestrian acts, acrobatics and special effects. Good Morning Arizona's Stella Inger got a behind-the-scenes look at the production on Thursday.

“Odysseo is a whole new production from Cavalia. It’s our second show. It’s bigger than the first one,”  Cavalia’s Andy Perez told Stella. “It’s like seeing a spectacle in Vegas, but in a touring show.”

The tents that house the show are amazing in their own right. The Big Top is ten stories tall.  It took weeks for more than 60 workers to transform the vacant plot of land at Scottsdale Road and Loop 101 into the luxurious setting of Cavalia’s Odessyo.

The show’s stage area is one and a half times the size of a professional hockey rink. The video backdrop used in the production is the size of three IMAX screens. And an underground water system floods 80,000 gallons of water onto the stage for the show’s finale.

But it's the horses of the show who really steal the spotlight. 56 horses freely play on stage, and the show builds through a variety of equestrian numbers including jumping, dressage, carousel, trick, stunt, Roman and Cossack riding.

But just because you’re not expert on horses, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the show. “You don’t need to know anything about horses to understand this really special connection,” says Perez. “As a society, we’ve gotten more modernized; we’ve moved away from nature. This show takes you on a nature voyage around the world.”

Acrobats and aerialists thrill the crowd with their high speed flipping, bouncing and flying. Performers include an acrobatic troupe from West Africa, and acrobats on stilts who take part in an obstacle-jumping competition. Overhead, graceful aerialists fly above the stage in a gorgeous silks number.

The original production of Cavalia has been touring the world since 2003. In 2009, Phoenix audiences welcomed the show to Scottsdale for a multiple week run. The company’s second offering, Cavalia Odysseo, began touring the world in the fall of 2011 and has visited Quebec, Miami, Atlanta, Toronto and Monterrey, Mexico.

The show runs through January 20. Ticket prices range from $29.50-$149.50.

You can also purchase VIP package experiences that include the best seats in the house, dinner prior to the show, an open bar, dessert at intermission, a photo opportunity with the artists and a tour of the Cavalia Odysseo stables.VIP packages range from $129.50-$259.50.
