TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A Tucson police dog and a suspected carjacker have been killed at the conclusion of a brief chase in the city's midtown area.
Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Widmer says the incident began at about 11 p.m. Wednesday when a person called police and said a man took his car at gunpoint.
Widmer tells KVOA-TV in Tucson officers spotted the car and tried to get the driver to stop but he sped away. He plowed through a home's front yard and stopped the car in a nearby alley.
He then took off running with officers and the police dog in pursuit. Widmer tells KVOA the man eventually shot the police dog and officers shot and killed him.
However, the Arizona Daily Star reports police didn't confirm who shot the dog.
