Gas prices continue to dropPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Gas prices in the Valley have gone down an average of 30 cents per gallon during the past six weeks.
Still, prices vary by up to 40 cents from station to station.
While a number of brand-name stations along Scottsdale Road are charging $3.43 for a gallon of regular, other non-brand pumps at Circle K, QuikTrip and Arco stations along nearby Greenway and Bell roads are priced at $3.04 to $3.06 per gallon.
The chance to save almost 40 cents per gallon has some Valley motorists driving miles out of their way to fill up, but AAA's Michelle Donati said that may be a mistake.
She points out that even if you save 5 to 10 cents per gallon, that would still only add up to a total savings of $.75 to $1.50 for every 15 gallons you put into your vehicle. Donati points out you may end up spending more than that just getting to a cheaper pump that's out of your way, not counting the time you spend just getting that small savings.
She stresses the best way to get the best deal is to research the least expensive stations close to your home or along the route you take to work. That's where your real gas savings are waiting.
