SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Scottsdale Police said a Valley man suffered a rather painful experience while sitting in a car that had been stopped by a DUI task force.
According to authorities, the vehicle was stopped at Main and Scottsdale Road for suspicion of DUI early Saturday morning.
As officers approached the car, a passenger began fumbling with something on the floor near his feet.
Seconds later a gun went off.
Officers thought they were being shot at, and performed a felony stop with their guns drawn.
Police went on to discover that the passenger had been trying to conceal a firearm when it went off and shot him in the leg.
The passenger was taken to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
