Prescott Valley man accused of biting hospital staff after arrest
James Michael Whalen By Andrew Michalscheck
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- Criminal charges have been filed against a Prescott Valley man accused of biting a hospital employee.
The Prescott Valley Police Department said they were attempting to arrest 31-year-old James Michael Whalen early Wednesday morning for his role in a fight when he began growling incoherently and biting and kicking at officers.
Police called in medical personnel believing that Whalen may be under the influence of an unknown substance.
Whalen was taken to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center East Campus where he reportedly tried to assault officers and hospital staff.
Staff at the hospital attempted to place a protective device on Whalen, which is when he allegedly bit a member of the staff on the wrist.
Whalen was eventually released from the hospital and taken to the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde.
He is charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest.
The hospital employee who was bitten by Whalen suffered only a minor injury.
