Phoenix weather: At least theres a chance for rain

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX -- The latest computer models are suggesting that besides a significant cooling trend for Arizona by the weekend, we could actually get some precipitation; rain in the deserts and some snow in the mountains.

For now, the unseasonably warm weather will continue through Saturday. Then as a cold front approaches from the north, we’ll see desert highs drop into the mid-60s by Sunday and early next week. As the front pushes in, there will be some widely scattered showers, mainly in eastern Arizona. We can also expect rather breezy conditions at times across northern Arizona.

At this point, we really aren’t expecting much in the way of measurable rain or snow. The system just doesn’t seem to contain a lot of moisture. However, if we’re lucky, the storm may signal an overall change in the atmosphere that may bring us more storms than we’ve been seeing the last couple of months.

So what are the current chances for rain around metro Phoenix on Sunday and Monday? At this point, only a 10 percent chance of rain, but that’s better than what we’ve had lately.
