MESA, Ariz. -- Members of Mesa High School’s marching band have a big reason to be proud!

For the second time in four years, the band has been named the best in the state.

“The kids are really great,” says band director Robert Brooks. “They work very, very hard. They’re very dedicated.”

Parents and school staff members are also a big part of the band’s support system.

“We have a great principal here who’s extremely supportive,” Brooks tells us.”We just work really, really hard and put our faith and love into it.”

The Jackrabbits are excited to take the State Championship trophy again. But the honor doesn't come without a lot of hard work, and months and months of practice.

“The color guard and drum line start rehearsing in the spring the year before, and they rehearse all summer long,” Brooks explains.

Color guard instructor Ashley graduated from Mesa High School a few years ago, and she says she is very proud of to be part of the band and its success.

“In the color Guard, we teach the girls and guys that we have new things every year,” Ashley says. “We just try and push them and get as much as we can.”
