SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A 12-year-old Scottsdale boy who had been reported missing was found and returned home safe and sound on Saturday.

Scottsdale Police said Carlos Vasquez was located after an individual provided them with information about his whereabouts.

Police went on to learn that Vasquez had gone to a friend's house after school, and then attended an overnight birthday party.

Vasquez told police he didn't tell his mother where he was because he didn't have her phone number.

Vasquez had left Mohave Middle School at Granite Reef and Jackrabbit roads on Friday and was last seen riding a trolley south on Miller Road.

Vasquez's mother called police at 1 a.m. Saturday when he never returned home.
