Woman robbed, attacked at Phoenix homePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Phoenix Police are searching for the person responsible for beating and robbing a 76-year-old woman overnight Friday.
Authorities said the incident took place at the woman’s home near 37th Avenue and Rose Garden.
"What she believes, and what we believe at this point, is that entry was made through a door that was unlocked on the west side of the home," said Sgt. Trent Crump with Phoenix Police. "There's a door that she believed was left open, and somebody came through that door."
The woman was severely beaten, and had several personal items stolen. Her car was also taken, but police located the vehicle on Saturday morning.
Police said the woman may have also been sexually assaulted during the attack.
"We're looking at an individual who, early morning, has gone into a home of one of our most vulnerable citizens and not only severely beat her and stole items from her, but may have engaged in a sex offense," said Sgt. Crump.
The only description police have is that the suspect is a man with a medium build.
