PHOENIX -- Entertainer Marie Osmond delivered a little early Christmas cheer to some special patients here in Phoenix this week.

Before she and brother Donny hit the stage at Gammage for their series of holiday shows, Marie paid a visit to the young patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

On Wednesday, she spent the afternoon at the hospital, visiting patients’ rooms and meeting with youngsters in the hospital’s playrooms.

Marie is the co-founder of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit that raises donations for 170 children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada, including Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

During her visit, she accepted a check for the Phoenix Children's Hospital from Walmart. The company donated more than a million dollars to the hospital.

Osmond says all of that money will stay here in Phoenix "It goes to the children,” she says. “It goes to help your kids. Statistically, everybody will use a children's hospital at some point in their life.”

The money that Walmart donated was all raised by company employees through events in  individual stores.

Osmond says the big donation is a perfect example of the Christmas spirit.

"To me, Christmas isn't so much about the gifts as it is the experience. I can't think of anything that's a greater experience than knowing that you're blessing a child's life."

Osmond is also promoting a website:  It allows people to donate online to one of the 170 hospitals in the Children's Miracle Network, including Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Marie and her brother Donny will be performing their Christmas show at Tempe's Gammage Auditorium through this Sunday.

For tickets to "Donny & Marie – Christmas in Arizona," visit The show runs through December 2.
