PHOENIX (AP) -- Interstate 17 northbound has reopened at the I-10/I-17 Split interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport after a multi-vehicle crash closed the freeway at the 7th Street exit early this afternoon.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the accident occurred at Interstate 17 and Seventh Street.

That resulted in the closure of northbound I-17 between the "Split" interchange with Interstate 10 near Sky Harbor International Airport and the "Stack" interchange between I-10 and I-17 west of downtown.

The department says the closure of the affected part of I-17 would be lengthy because of the need to remove disabled vehicles and because the accident involves a fuel leak.

Traffic on I-17 was detoured along the I-10 Inner Loop.
