YUMA, Ariz. -- One person was found dead inside a downed plane discovered on the Barry M. Goldwater Bombing Range in southwestern Arizona Wednesday morning.

Border Patrol agents found the aircraft west of the Mohawk Mountains, approximately 10 to 15 miles south of Interstate 8, and notified the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.

The plane is a civilian single-engine passenger plane and not a military aircraft, according to the sheriff's office.

The National Transportation and Safety Board is responding to the scene and will be investigating the crash.

The identity of the occupant is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
