FBI profile of Valley fugitive accused of murderPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Eight years since the deadly, ambush shooting and robbery of an armored-car guard outside an Ahwatukee movie theater, and the FBI is still looking for leads in tracking down the accused gunman, Jason Derek Brown.
Brown, who’s on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted fugitive list, is suspected of shooting Robert Palomares five times in the head at close range. Investigators say Brown got away with $56,000, escaping on a bicycle that he later ditched.
“He planned this out,” said Supervisory Special Agent Mark Hoffman of the FBI’s Phoenix office.
Agents describe Brown as a con artist who speaks fluent French, has a master's degree in international business and likely lives above his means.
“He endears himself to the trust of individuals and can easily blend into the community and take advantage of gullible individuals,” Hoffman said.
While his whereabouts remain unknown, investigators hope his character traits can lead to clues that could help break the case.
Agents say he likes to snowboard, ski, golf and motocross. He’s also known to enjoy showing off high-priced vehicles, boats and other toys, according to investigators.
The FBI says Brown has ties to California, Arizona and Utah. Agents also know he has a Mormon background and served a mission in France. The Mormon community is one of various possibilities where he may be hiding out, according to investigators.
“We’ve had contact with communities thought the United States and international leads,” Hoffman said. “At this point, I’m not at liberty to discuss the investigative aspects, but we’re asking for the community’s assistance.”
They want to not only find a wanted fugitive, but find justice for the victim’s family, nearly a decade later.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading directly to Brown's arrest.
