PHOENIX -- A young boy is recovering after being run over by a vehicle driven by his older brother.
Phoenix Police said a family was putting up Christmas lights on Sunday in the area of 41st Avenue and Cactus when their 10-year-old son hopped into the driver’s seat of their SUV and somehow put the vehicle into reverse.
“The vehicle was on, the car started driving backwards with the door being open, and it knocked mom down and the 3-year-old got run over,” said Lt. Emilien Sapon with Phoenix Police.
The mother was able to stop the vehicle by hitting the brake with her hand. She then grabbed her 3-year-old and called out to her neighbors.
“She came running in from across the street holding the little one,” said neighbor Jim Skousen. “He had like a bloody nose and it looked like something had happened to his face, but he was alert and moving around.”
The child was taken to a local hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.
