ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Newly released surveillance video shows a pilot accused of murder crashing one of his company's planes at a Utah airport.

Police say Brian Joseph Hedglin shot himself after attempting to steal the SkyWest plane last July.

Skywest employee Brian Hedglin made headlines last summer when he decided to steal one of his company’s planes and drive it out of the airport.

Surveillance footage shows Hedglin driving the plane towards the parking lot, and taking out a corner of the terminal on the way.

Hedglin had reportedly stabbed his girlfriend to death three days prior, and experts say it appeared as if he was destined for destruction.

“There was no caution in that at all. He looks like he was ready, willing and able to just hit anything and everything,” said Valerie Walker, a retired Delta Airlines pilot.

Police eventually arrived on scene, but Hedglin shot and killed himself before they could pull him from the airplane.

Skywest said Hedglin was on administrative leave at the time of the incident.
