Police arrest man suspected of robbing three banks
John Painter By Andrew Michalscheck
PEORIA, Ariz. -- A man who allegedly robbed three banks in the West Valley was arrested earlier this week.
According to Peoria Police, 43-year-old John Painter robbed the Sun West Federal Credit Union near 75th Avenue and Bell Road on Tuesday afternoon.
During the course of the robbery, a teller was able to write down a description of Painter. Painter was also seen leaving the scene in an older model BMW.
Detectives were able to take the description provided by the teller and identify Painter in their law enforcement database. They were also able to link Painter to a bank robbery in Peoria on October 16, and determine the license plate of the BMW.
Police located Painter’s car at an apartment complex near 85th Avenue and Peoria, and placed him under arrest as he exited the vehicle.
Inside the car police reportedly found the stolen money and the clothes Painter was wearing during the robbery.
Police said Painter admitted to Tuesday’s robbery and the robbery last month. He also confessed to robbing a third bank in Glendale.
