PHOENIX -- Phoenix police are using new imaging technology to try to identify a body that was found more than a decade ago.

The man's body was found in a field near Southern and 13th avenues on April 7, 2001. Phoenix police said the unidentified victim died from an overdose a couple of days earlier.

The victim was described as Hispanic, 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, wearing green jeans, a purple and black jacket, plaid shirt and a cloth necklace.

No missing person reports were ever found that matched the victim description.

The victim had very distinctive colorful tattoos over much of his body and police are hoping they will help identify him. The victim's tattoos included:

Chest: banner with flowers and names

Left chest: dolphin and a heart with the name "Claudia" and "Gabriella"

Left arm: a bird and a child with two heads and a woman

Left forearm: Virgin Mary

Left elbow: spiral design

Right shoulder: abstract design

Right deltoid: crucifix

Right upper arm: illegible script

Right forearm: jack-in-the-box with a clown head

Right forearm: two women's heads

Lower left leg: abstract design

Left ankle: coral snake

Left back: two skulls

Left back: ill-defined tattoo with what appears to be wings

Right back: ill-defined tattoo of a woman with a sombrero

A photo forensic specialist created a computer-generated three-dimensional figure of the victim that depicts some of the more distinguishable tattoos (view the photos in the gallery above).

The Phoenix Police Department is asking anyone who may know the identity of this victim to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or Crime Stop at 602-262-6151.
