Malnourished dog, puppies need your helpPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A dog and her puppies need your help for a better life after they were found abused in a Phoenix apartment.
The Phoenix Fire Department discovered the mother and the six puppies in a closet at a north-central apartment. Firefighters then turned to Animals Benefit Club of Arizona.
"And they called us up and asked if we would accept the animals and we said absolutely," said Andra Jeffress, a volunteer for Animals Benefit Club of Arizona. "So they brought them to us."
The mother was extremely malnourished but still fed her puppies, who were only a few days old when they were rescued. The mother's name is Autumn.
"Since she came in in autumn," Jeffress said. "It fits her since she's lovely and sweet and sort of the color of autumn."
As for the puppies, there are five boys and one girl. Everyone is doing good now.
"We probably think they're Shepherd mixes, Shepherd Lab mix," said Jeffress. "Usually makes a very sweet and intelligent dog so that's what they are we believe."
ABC needs help raising money for Autumn's medical care, and to spay and neuter on her six babies. They won't be available to adopt for another six weeks.
