Families evacuated following fire at Mesa duplex

MESA, Ariz. -- Two families were forced to evacuate their homes on Wednesday when a fire broke out at a duplex in Mesa.

According to the Mesa Fire Department, a fire started in the attic of a carport in the area of Horne and University.

The families were safely evacuated, and after about 50 minutes, fire crews from both Mesa and Tempe were able to extinguish the flames.

Mesa Fire Volunteer Connectors and the Red Cross are working to assist the families.

No injuries were reported from the incident.
