El Mirage robbery suspect drives by officers, tries to escape in hospital
Alberto Solis, 44 By Mike Gertzman
EL MIRAGE, Ariz. -- An armed robbery suspect in El Mirage drove by officers Monday after his crime, and then tried to escape from custody while in a hospital.
It all started Monday afternoon in the area of North El Mirage Road and End Street, when a man flagged down an El Mirage police officer, telling him Alberto Solis, 44, stole money from him and threaten to "cap" him when he asked for cash back, according to detectives. The gun apparently was in Solis' vehicle.
As the two were talking, Solis reportedly drove by where they were. Officers stopped him near 124th Lane and Meyer and took him into custody.
Solis was then driven to the hospital after he complained he was sick, according to police. Once the medical staff completed their examination inside the hospital emergency room, officers tried to take him into custody but he ran through the hospital to try to get away.
One officer tried to arrest Solis but was assaulted by the suspect, according to police. After a brief struggle, Solis was arrested.
Solis was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail and charged with armed robbery, resisting arrest, aggravated assault and escape.
