PHOENIX -- Three dogs will hopefully get another chance at a healthy life thanks to one Valley man’s kind act.

Eric Ditunno contacted 3TV Thursday after he saw the dogs wandering on an Interstate 17 access road north of Van Buren.

Ditunno said he stopped his car and the dogs immediately came right to him.

"When I see animals being treated like this, it makes me sick to my stomach actually. I can't imagine anyone doing this to a creature who depends on someone else for its own survival," said Ditunno.

The dogs all had similar leashes and appeared to be starved and abused.

Ditunno took the animals to his nearby business, where he called 3TV and provided the dogs with food.

We contacted the Arizona Humane Society, who immediately sent a crew to Ditunno’s business.

The Humane Society said they hadn’t seen dogs this severely emaciated in quite some time.

The Humane Society took two of the dogs to their second chance animal hospital. One of the dogs bit Ditunno after being fed and was taken to the county to be quarantined.

All three dogs are still being evaluated, and it’s too early to tell if they will be able to fully recover.
