PHOENIX -- Police captured two burglary suspects on Thursday morning after officers received a report of someone trying to break into a home.

Officers surrounded a neighborhood near 19th Ave. and Bethany Home Rd. and caught one suspect after chasing him down an alley. The suspect tried to climb a wall as an officer was closing in on him. That officer deployed his Taser which immediately brought the suspect to the ground.

The incident began when a woman said she heard someone trying to break into her home through the back door. She ran into her bedroom and called 911.

"There's someone in my house," said Naomi Lowe as she described the terrifying ordeal.

Lowe said she locked her bedroom door and the burglar tried to get into her room. When asked what she was thinking at that moment Lowe said she was afraid "that they were going to get in and hurt me."

Lowe said she was robbed twice last year. "[My father] works very, very hard and we have nothing, pretty much close to nothing and they keep taking from us and I'm scared for my life and my dad's life."

"Officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress, a residential burglary." said Lt. Charles Morin with the Phoenix Police Dept. "Officers saw several subjects running from the scene. A perimeter was set up. We asked for our air unit and K-9 unit to assist us in the search. We conducted a search of the area. We were able to find both suspects that ran from the residence where the burglary occurred."

Police used that dog to find the second suspect hiding in the backyard of a home in the neighborhood. Even as that suspect was cornered by officers he would not give up easily and had to be peppered sprayed before being apprehended.

No residents or officers were injured.

"This was a good result of citizens being involved in their neighborhoods by directing officers to what they saw and we have good witnesses," said Lt. Morin.
