SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. -- Deputies found an empty backpack and books tossed around along with something else in front of a missing San Tan Valley girl's home.
"This is what was so disturbing for us in law enforcement," said Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu. "The note read, 'You will get her back when she gets what she deserves.'"
That note prompted a large aerial and ground search for Samantha White, 15. Deputies were seen stopping cars leaving the teen's neighborhood.
Hours later White was found wandering in a neighborhood about a mile from her home.
Her uncle, Brian Gibson, said his niece's shirt was ripped.
"The family is relieved, of course, but still we don't know exactly what happened," Gibson said.
The teen told deputies she was taken by some people.
"There's a young male that's also being interviewed, but we don't know what involvement, if any, he would have," Babeu said.
White's uncle said his niece has had problems with other teenagers in the past.
Detectives said White's account of what happened doesn't match the evidence and they are still investigating the incident.
