Body discovered inside burning car in Chandler

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- The Chandler Police Dept. is currently conducting an investigation after a body was found inside a burning car.

The scene is right next to Chandler High School near Arizona Ave. and Chandler Blvd. at the intersection of Erie and California streets.

Police and firefighters responded to the scene at 4 a.m.

According to authorities, the incident was caused by a low-speed, single vehicle collision where the driver failed to control the car.

Police have not yet been able to determine what prevented the driver from controlling the vehicle. The preliminary investigation did not reveal any signs of foul play.

"When first responders got on scene the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. When the firefighters got the fire put out we discovered a body inside the vehicle," said Det. Seth Tyler, Chandler Police Dept.

Det. Tyler said the investigation is not affecting any activities at the school.

There is no word yet on the identity of deceased person.
