Tempe PD looking for bank robbery suspect

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe Police is asking for the public's help in locating a man who is suspected of robbing two banks.

According to police, the man robbed the U.S. Bank inside the Safeway at 1515 E. Elliot Road on October 4.

The man walked inside the store just after 5:30 p.m. and purchased an item from Safeway before entering the bank.

The suspect reportedly handed a teller a note and a grocery bag and then displayed a handgun. He then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police believe the man also robbed the Compass Bank inside the Albertsons at 4060 W. Ray Road on October 3.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male who is around 30 years old. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall, approximately 240 pounds, and has dark hair and prescription glasses.

He was last seen wearing a maroon Arizona State University hat and a yellow ASU long-sleeve shirt.
