ADOT expects East Valley traffic jam for ASU/Oregon gamePosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Whether or not you are a college football fan, commuters who live in the East Valley will likely feel the effects of the Pac-12 showdown between Arizona State University and Oregon University in the Tempe area Thursday night.
That’s why the Arizona Department of Transportation is issuing a warning and advisory for anyone who drives on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway, on the north side of ASU’s main campus, for their afternoon commute.
Kick-off between the Sun Devils and Ducks is set for 6 p.m. A near capacity crowd of some 70-thousand fans is expected to converge on Sun Devil Stadium at the height of the evening rush hour. That is why state traffic engineers expect the Loop 202 to fill up and jam up quickly before game time.
As a result, regular commuters who usually travel eastbound on the Loop 202 in the afternoon and evening might consider an alternate route to the East Valley. ADOT recommends drivers use the I-10 eastbound to the US 60 (Superstition Freeway). ADOT is recommending drivers who live in Scottsdale use northbound State Route 51 to eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway).
