One dead in car accident on Grand Canyon's North RimPosted: Updated:
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. -- A Maryland woman died this week in a car accident on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
On Tuesday morning, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of an accident on Highway 67, just outside of the park.
Rangers arrived to find a vehicle on its side. Preliminary indications are that the vehicle left the road and rolled onto its side after hitting a tree.
The driver, 57-year-old Carol Cook, died at the scene. The passenger was taken to the Kane County Hospital in Kanab, Utah. He is being treated for minor injuries.
Both Cook and her passenger were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The National Park Service, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating the accident.
