Border Patrol agent shoots at rock throwers in MexicoPosted: Updated:
NOGALES, Ariz. -- A U.S. Border Patrol agent shot at a group of people throwing rocks across the fence with Mexico in Nogales, Ariz., Wednesday night and may have hit one person.
Agents responded to reports of two suspected narcotics smugglers near the border at about 11:30 p.m., according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The agents said they saw the smugglers drop a load of narcotics on the U.S. side of the international boundary and flee back to Mexico.
People at the scene then began throwing rocks at the agents and ignored orders to stop.
An agent fired his weapon and one person appeared to have been hit. There has been no confirmation of injuries at this time.
The agents reported the shooting to authorities in Mexico.
The FBI is leading the investigation.
