PHOENIX -- Our first big fall storm moves closer to Arizona on Wednesday.

The day was off to a mild start with clear skies and Valley temperatures in the 60s and low 70s.

This afternoon, we'll warm up to the low 90s with increasing cloud cover ahead of Thursday's storm. The low pressure system currently moving onshore in California is expected to work its way from west to east across Arizona Thursday, bringing windy, cooler and wet weather.

Winds are expected out of the south Thursday afternoon and evening between 15 and 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40 mph. That could generate some patchy blowing dust.

Rain chances are looking slightly better for the Valley. There's about a 40 percent chance of showers between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Valley highs will likely top out in the upper 80s Thursday and upper 70s Friday.

The weekend looks dry, with low 80s on Saturday, upper 80s on Sunday, with sunshine for both days.  Overnight lows are expected to dip to the 50s.
