PHOENIX -- A former constable was sentenced Tuesday morning for conspiring to burn down his own home.

Per the stipulated plea, Jonathan Levenson was sentenced to two years supervised probation and four months in jail for conspiracy to commit arson.

At the time of his arrest, Tempe police said Levenson had tried for months to get someone to burn his house down for the insurance money.

Investigators said he wanted to time the fire on a Jewish holiday and make it look like a hate crime.

Levenson previously served as a Maricopa County constable for the Kyrene Justice Court. He was in charge of serving protective orders and evictions, among other court duties. His four-year elected term was littered with accusations of negligence.
