PHOENIX -- General Motors is recalling more than 40,000 vehicles that are already on the road.

The company is asking owners of Chevy Colbats and Pontiac G5 Sedans from 2007 to 2009 to visit their local dealership. They’re also recalling the 2007 Chevy Equinox, Pontiac Torrent SUVs and Saturn Ions.

GM said the recall is primarily a problem in warm weather states, explaining that there’s a plastic part that might crack because of the heat and cause a gas leak.

GM began investigating the defect last year, and said they’ve had no reports of fires or injuries related to the defect.

GM will attempt to notify owners of the vehicles by mail, and said they will fix the problem for free.
