CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A motorcycle rider is in critical condition after he was involved in two crashes Friday morning.

Chandler police said the motorcyclist rear-ended a woman's car at Dobson and Warner roads in Chandler at about 9:50 a.m.

The woman helped the rider get his motorcycle upright, believing that he was going to move it to the side of the road.

According to Detective Seth Tyler, the driver told the motorcycle rider that she was going to call the police and he asked her not to then fled the scene.

He continued eastbound on Warner Road. As the motorcyclist approached Hartford Street, he entered the intersection on a red signal and collided with a white minivan. Witnesses told police the van was proceeding through a green light.

The rider was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet.

The woman driving the van was also transported to a hospital where she is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

She had two children, ages 2 and 4, with her in the van. They were not injured.

Police did not release the motorcyclist's name, saying only that he was a 34-year-old white male.

Police are still investigating.
