TOLLESON, Ariz. -- Police arrested a Tolleson woman after she allegedly hit her 13-year-old son with a baseball bat.

Adelina Bonfiglio Ochoa, 40, was booked on one count of child abuse.

The assistant principal at the boy's school called police after the teen told him that his mother had struck him in the arm, causing a bruise.

The eighth-grade student had a bruise on his upper left arm that appeared to be fading away, according to court documents.

The alleged incident occurred Sept. 19 at the family's home.

Detectives interviewed the victim and his mother on Monday. Ochoa explained that she hit her son in the arm with a baseball bat because she was upset with him for staying out all day long and not informing her of his whereabouts, court documents said.

The boy did not require medical attention for his injury.
