Goodyear man dies after ejected from quad in Forest Lakes area

FOREST LAKES, Ariz. -- A Goodyear man died after he apparently lost control of an off-road vehicle and crashed in the Forest Lakes area over the weekend.

At about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, a Coconino County sheriff's deputy responded to a single-vehicle collision in the area of Bear Canyon Lake at the intersection of Forest Road 300 and Forest Road 89, which are both maintained dirt roads.

Sheriff's office spokesman Gerry Blair said Justin Mojliro Muramoto, 34, was riding a quad southbound on FR 89 following a family member who was riding in front of him.

Judging from physical evidence found at the collision site and information gathered from witnesses, investigators believe that the operator of the lead quad stopped his vehicle at the stop sign where FS89 intersects with FS300.

Muramoto then passed his relative, entered the intersection and attempted a left turn. It is believed he lost control of his quad, causing it to leave the roadway. Muramoto was ejected from the quad and came to rest in a bar ditch.

Bystanders, including a doctor, provided initial first aid until medical personnel arrived.

Muramoto was flown to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center where he died Sunday.

Coconino County sheriff's deputies and detectives are continuing the investigation.
