PHOENIX -- Now is a great time to welcome a pet rabbit or rat into your home.

The Arizona Humane Society currently has nearly 70 rabbits and rats available for adoption. Some of the animals have been living at the AHS since May, and with space becoming limited, the AHS is encouraging people to adopt a new pet.

While the AHS always advises people to do some research before adopting an animal, they point out that rabbits and rats are a great choice for people who may not be able to have a dog or a cat.

Rats are available for just $10, while rabbits can be adopted for $35. The fee for rabbits also includes spay/neuter surgery, a follow-up vet exam, and 20 percent off rabbit-related items in the pet emporium.

To see all of the animals up for adoption visit www.azhumane.org, or call 602-997-7586 ext. 1045 to inquire about a particular animal.
