Phoenix weather: Sunny last week of summer

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX -- Sunshine aplenty is on tap for the last official week of summer.

Valley residents woke up to temperatures in the 70s again Tuesday morning under clear skies. Today is the first day our average high for the date drops to the double digits at 99 degrees, but we'll top out just slightly above that this afternoon, closer to 101 degrees.

Clear skies continue into the evening hours, with overnight lows in the 70s forecast the rest of the week ahead.  Meanwhile, afternoon highs should top out near 102 degrees with only a few thin, high clouds expected.

The Valley is under an Ozone Health Watch today, thanks to all that sunshine, light winds and ozone being transported in from Southern California.  High levels of ground level ozone can make it tough to breathe.  People with sensitive respiratory systems are encouraged to limit their time outside today, and everyone is urged to carpool and refuel after dark.
