1 Killed, 1 wounded in early morning shooting outside Phoenix homePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- One person is dead and a second is in the hospital after an early morning shooting outside a Phoenix home. Police are searching for the suspect or suspects.
It happened just after 3 a.m. Friday in front of a home in the area of 24th Street and Broadway Road.
According to police, a group of people was hanging out in front of the home. Michael Anthony Thomas, 43, was sitting in his car with the door open.
A second car pulled up beside him, stopped and somebody inside opened fire.
At this point, investigators do not know if there was a single shooter or more than one armed person in that second car.
Thomas and a 20-year-old man standing near the vehicle were hit several times. Thomas died at the hospital. The 20-year-old is in extremely serious condition, but is expected to survive.
It's early in the investigation but police do not believe this shooting was random, nor do they think it was gang related.
Detectives have not said what led them to those preliminary conclusions.
Investigators have not released any information about the victims and have only the barest details about the suspect vehicle.
"At this point, again, our suspect information is extremely limited -- a small, dark-colored vehicle which fled southbound," said Lt. Matt Giordano of the Phoenix Police Department.
