GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Four people were taken to local hospitals Tuesday morning after a wreck involving as many as three cars.

It happened shortly before 8 a.m. at 51st and Peoria avenues.

First responders said the situation could have been much worse had the victims not wearing their seat belts.

Firefighters had to extricate a woman from the front passenger seat of one of the vehicles. While her condition was not immediately available, she appeared to have suffered the worst injuries.

There reportedly were two children in one of the vehicles. They were wearing seat belts and were doing well in the wake of the crash.

While the cause of the wreck has not been determined, witnesses say one of the vehicles might have run a red light.

Early morning rain left the roads slick, but it's not clear if that was a factor in the wreck.

The intersection will be restricted while investigators try to piece everything together. 3

TV traffic reporter Gina Maravilla advised drivers to use Cactus Road or Dunlap/Olive avenues as east-west alternates and 43rd or 59th avenues for north-south alternates.
