Phoenix weather: Chance for monsoon storms increasingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Most of the thunderstorm activity in Arizona through Tuesday night is going to be in southern portions of the state.
Already on Monday, significant rain fell in the Tucson area. The chance for rain around metro Phoenix is going up Monday night and Tuesday, when we could see storms produce heavy rain in brief periods of time.
After Tuesday night, a drying trend will take place from west to east across Arizona and the number of thunderstorms for the rest of the monsoon will probably be rather limited.
Even though the season officially ends on Sept. 30, typically the number of storms goes downhill rather quickly during the last couple weeks of September.
