Man's body, tractor found in Cochise County ravinePosted: Updated:
TUCSON Ariz. -- Cochise County officials said the body of an 89-year-old man was found at the bottom of a ravine east of Tucson.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a possible missing person in the Cascabel area at approximately 4:15 p.m. Saturday.
The caller said she had spoken to her father, Louis Lancaster, around noon via hand-held radio when he told her that he was on his tractor at Gold Mine Hill near Cascabel. She said she hadn't heard from her father since and was unable to contact him.
Cochise County Search and Rescue and the Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter responded to the area.
At approximately 6 p.m., the helicopter crew located the tractor at the bottom of a ravine with an estimated drop of at least 100 feet.
Search and Rescue personnel were able to get to the tractor and discovered Lancaster's body.
Search and Rescue personnel said Lancaster appeared to have been coming down from the hill with an estimated 20-degree slope when the tractor went off the road and into the ravine, ejecting him before rolling.
This incident is being investigated as an accident and no foul play is suspected.
